2019 Wyoming State Fair Hay Show to be held in honor of longtime Wyoming resident and hay producer, Gerry Danko

It’s no secret to those in the hay industry that Wyoming hay producers can put up some high quality hay. Our unique climate and high elevation create a perfect environment for growing and harvesting some of the highest quality forages in the country. Since 2003 the Wyoming State Fair Hay Show has been the place to see that quality on display.

Recently, we lost a long-time supporter and participant in the Wyoming State Fair Hay Show. Gerry Danko, of Powell, WY has regularly entered hay in the state fair, and his hay has consistently qualified to go on to the World Forage Analysis Superbowl Contest, held annually in Madison, WI.

Gerry was also instrumental in helping create the Wyoming Hay and Forage Association, a non-profit organization promoting and supporting the hay and forage industry in Wyoming. He also served two years as Northwest Director for the association.

To honor his long-time support of and participation in the hay industry in Wyoming, the Wyoming Hay and Forage Association would like to dedicate the 2019 Wyoming State Fair Hay Show to Gerry Danko.

Entries are due by Friday August 2nd, and hay that was produced in Wyoming in either 2018 or 2019 is eligible for entry. Classes include alfalfa, grass and mixed hay. There are also special Young Producer Classes, allowing producers under 36 years old to compete separately. Once entries are received, delivery of the hay to the State Fair will be coordinated by the Wyoming Hay and Forage Association.

We understand that this has been a difficult year to get hay put up with the long, wet spring we experienced, but we hope that we can honor Gerry’s legacy with a strong showing of Wyoming quality hay at the 2019 Wyoming State Fair Hay Show.
